Founder's Bio
Dr. Allison Brown, DPT
With 30 years of Physical Therapy experience, Dr. Allison Brown’s goal is to assist people in continually moving toward function on their journey in life by serving them with compassionate caregiving and teaching. She has trained people of all ages, from NICU to youth athletes, professional performing artists to “everyday” adults. The vast majority of her work has been with youth, those with hypermobility/dysautonomia, and all ages of performing artist/athletes!
Having earned a degree in Community Health Education from Nebraska (UN-L), Dr. Allison was then part of the world’s first clinical doctorate program in Physical Therapy at Creighton Medical Center. She worked in pediatric (birth - 21) hospitals and clinics her entire career, and also took on second jobs and private clients seeing adults and contracting to serve professional performing artists on tour. Once her own (home-educated) children left for college, these experiences led her to moving fully away from the traditional insurance-based clinic setting so she could better serve people in the ways that met their needs including fast-access to care; activity prep-maintenance-recovery work; and especially performing arts-related care.
Dr. Allison is the founder of Functional Journeys, a private ministerial association dedicated to Living and Learning ~ Helping and Healing. One project of Functional Journeys is PhysioForward, which provides Physical Therapy based care and training to help people improve their daily functioning, whether that is getting dressed in the morning or performing on a professional stage. Various treatments are utilized and Dr. Allison has been certified in Graston Technique, Myofascial Decompression (Cup Therapy), Functional Dry Needling, Yamuna Ball Rolling, Infant Massage, Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT), Lisa Howell’s Ballet Blog/Perfect Pointe Coursework, and more. She has an office in Colorado, and works on-location at studios, businesses, and venues.
Since 2019, she has contracted through Neurotour to provide PT services to touring artists, primarily Broadway National Tours. With Neurotour, she provides care to artists when they are in our area, when they request a therapist at a certain tour stop, and tours on the road short-term to sub for the PT’s on year-long contracts.
Education is a core component of her work and Dr. Brown has been privileged to teach local youth in basic science courses, injury reduction, pre-pointe dance education, collegiate physical therapy programs, and as a featured speaker on POTS and Hypermobility at both the CO Physical Therapy Association and National Dance Educators Association National Meetings.
Outside the clinic, Dr. Allison is supported by her husband and young-adult children as she pretends to be a suburban homesteader. The Brown’s daughter earned a BFA in Dance and Creative Writing from a top university ballet conservatory and now dances with a professional ballet company. Their son enjoyed numerous sports and activities, focusing on baseball in high school, and now excels as a university aeronautics student.
